SALT LAKE CITY -- The University of Utah will compete in the Clarence Robinson Invitational hosted by Brigham Young University this Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Provo. The field will consist of as many as 12 teams including Weber State, Utah State, Southern Utah and Utah Valley State. Nationally ranked Nebraska and Illinois will also participate in the three-day -event.
The heptathlon and decathlon will begin at 11:45 a.m. on Thursday with the finals taking place on Friday. Preliminary events will also take place on Friday, while finals in both track and field events will take place on Saturday. Head Coach Mike Jones says his athletes are looking forward to competing in Provo.
"We are anxious to compete again so that the kids have a chance to improve on their performances," said Jones, who feels his athletes were still recovering from the accident at their meets last weekend in California and Logan. "Our performances were a little below par last week and I blame that on the accident. Hopefully with one meet under their belt they'll perform a little more up to standards. "
Britta Schaer, Erianne Allen and late addition to the team Crystal Kendall will all compete in the heptathlon for the first time ever. Most of the men will compete in the 1,500 meters to work on improving their speed skills.
Utah's next meet will be the Idaho State Mid-Week Invitational in Pocatello, Idaho, on May 5th.
