The Utah men's tennis team dropped its fourth straight match on Saturday, Mar. 6, with a 5-2 loss to regional foe, Boise State. The Bengals (4-7) have consistently been one of the toughest teams in Region VII, being ranked as high as 23rd last year. Utah's record drops to 4-6 with the loss.
Boise State captured the doubles point winning all three matches. At No. 1, Leif Meineke and Wesley Moodie downed Utah's Trevor Ferguson and Ben Coates, 8-4. Ryan Thompson and Cory Dalos defeated Ashley Dyer and Nik Yip at No. 2, 8-6, while Andrew Roomleh and David Rugimbana squeaked by Adam Eke and Kevin Zenger, 9-8. In singles play, Utah captured two wins. The first by No. 1 slotted Coates, who beat Meineke, 6-2, 7-6. Eke picked up the other Ute win at No. 5, outlasting Roomleh, 3-6, 7-6, 6-4.
The Bengals picked up the other four singles wins. Moddie beat Dyer at No. 2, 7-5, 7-6, Thompson slammed Ferguson in the third match, 6-2, 6-1, David Dalgaard downed Patrick Wallebring, 6-4, 6-4, at the No. 4 slot, and Dalos, who began his collegiate tennis career at Utah before transferring to Boise State, beat Yip in a three-set match, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3.
Utah's Mar. 11 match against Northern Arizona has been canceled. The Utes travel to California next week to play four matches in a six day stretch before returning home for a conference match against Fresno State on Mar. 31.
