Sonia (she/her) joined the Sport Psychology and Wellness Office in July 2021 transitioning into the Athletic Department from the University Counseling Center. In July 2024, Sonia took on the role of Associate Director of the SPWO. Prior to working at the University, Sonia attended Boston University, where she received a Master’s in Education in Counseling Psychology with a Sport Psychology Concentration. Sonia holds a Clinical Mental Health Counselor License in the State of Utah. She has extensive experience in college athletics, having attended DePaul University, where she was a student-athlete on the Women’s Soccer Team and working as a sport psychology intern at multiple universities in the Boston Area.

Sonia practices from an eclectic therapeutic approach, focused on relationship building while implementing various sports psychology techniques. She operates from a strengths-based, ACT, mindfulness, and emotional embodiment lens, while maintaining cultural humility and meeting student-athletes where they are. She has received training in Internal Family Systems and blends parts work in with her trauma informed approach and has begun to use this technique when working on mental performance specific concerns. Sonia works hard to help student-athletes grow not just in competition but in developing their identities outside of their sport.

Outside of work, Sonia enjoys watching all sports, psychological thrillers, getting outside, spending time with her partner and their dog Rumi, as well as connecting with friends.
