Will McDonald is beginning his third season on the Ute coaching staff. This is his first full-time coaching appointment after coaching ski racing during the summer for five years.
McDonald has an accomplished past in ski racing as he was the first American, along with Lindsey Vonn, to win a race at Topolin. They both took slalom titles. He also won two gold medals at the Whistler Cup in the slalom and the giant slalom.
At age 18, McDonald was ranked in the top 15 in slalom for the U.S., before starting his collegiate racing career at the University of Utah in 2003. He qualified for the NCAA Championships three times before graduating in 2007 with a bachelor[apos]s degree in Behavioral Science and Health.
He won his first FIS race at the age of 15, competing against college athletes, and was ranked No. 1 in the world for his age in slalom from age 14 to 16. The Aspen, Colo., native started skiing at the age of 3.
McDonald is now working toward a master[apos]s degree in Environmental Science within the PMST program at the U. of U.
