Utah Competes at USTA SoCal Intercollegiate Tennis Championships

SAN DIEGO – The Utah women's tennis team was back in action this past weekend at the USTA SoCal Intercollegiate Tennis Championships.
ÂIn the main draw, Kara Garcia defeated Beatrice Veltri from Grand Canyon with 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 scores in the round of 64. Garcia went on to defeat Boise State's Valentina Vachkova in the round of 32 with a 7-6 (0), 6-4 victory. In the Round of 16, Garcia fell in a tight three set match to Hudson Hawkins from UNLV with scores of 4-6, 6-4, 2-6.Â
ÂLater, in extra matches Garcia defeated Claudia Sofia Martinez Solis from GCU with 6-2, 6-4 scores. Garcia was later defeated by Ines Leon from San Diego with 6-4, 6-4 scores.Â
ÂIn the round of 64, Emmie Moore came through with a win against Kennedy Robinson from Nevada with 6-3, 7-6 (0) scores. Moore defeated Emma Pell from UCSD with 6-1, 6-0 scores in the round of 32. In the round of 16, Moore fought hard in the first set with a tiebreaker against Lily Taylor from Arizona State, but ultimately lost with 7-6 (6), 6-1 scores.Â
ÂNike Lenz had a 6-1, 7-6 (6) victory against Julia Visaya from UCSD. Lenz fought a hard battle against Sarang Lim from Arizona State, but fell short with 6-7 (4), 7-6 (1), 7-5 scores.Â
ÂIn extra matches, Lily Stohl picked up a nice win over Carla Grignac from Boise State with 2-6, 7-6 (1), [10-7] scores.
ÂAlso in extra matches, Lenz picked up a 6-2, 4-6, 13-11 victory over Lila Bachour from USD.Â
In the doubles main draw, Nike Lenz and Lily Stohl came out strong defeating Sage Bergeson and Sephi Sheng from BYU with a 6-2 score. In the round of 16, the pair was defeated by Aiya Nupbay and Nanami Goto from ASU with a 6-4 score.Â
ÂEmmie Moore and Hayley Roberts defeated Sonya Goldberg and Emma Pell from UCSD with a 6-3 score in round of 32. The Ute duo fell short in the round of 16 with a loss against Zlata Bartanusz and Sarang Lim from ASU with a 6-1 score.
ÂIn extra matches, Avery Olsen and Nike Lenz won against Aniela Odrobina and Alexia Clara Adascalitei from GCU with a 6-3 score.

The Utes continue the fall season with the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic on Oct. 2-Oct. 4 in Montgomery, Ala. and then ITA Mountain Regionals in Provo, Utah.
