SAN LUIS OBISPO, Cali. – The No. 20 Utah Volleyball team shook off a set one loss to beat California Baptist, 3-1 in day one of the SLO Classic.
The Lancers put the Utes on their heels in set one and pushed extra points in set two before Utah dug in for decisive set three and four wins (20-25, 29-27, 25-15, 25-16).
Additionally, three Utes (
Emrie Moea'i,
Lana Mijacic, and
Langley Griffin) posted career-high marks to help the Utes to their seventh win of the 2025 season.

SET ONE
Kamryn Gibadlo got the Utes off to a great start with two kills in a row to go up 2-0 on the Lancers early in the match. However, California Baptist fought back taking a 6-4 lead a few plays later.
Moea'i was critical tying up the game and taking the lead posting back-to-back aces to make it a 7-6 set in favor of the Utes.

Neea-Maria Joki and
Katelynn Field get the Utes within one of the Lancers again, 19-18 after seven ties and three lead changes through the first set.
Despite the surge from Utah, CBU gets to serve point first, 24-20, and ices the set win off an attack error by Utah, 25-20.
SET TWO
California Baptist picked up where they left off in the first set, jumping to a 3-0 start on the Utes out of the gate, but Moea'i struck again with an ace (her third of the day) to make it a 3-2 game.
Utah didn't stay down for long jumping to an 11-8 lead over the Lancers fueled by two more aces, one from Gibadlo, and the other from Mijacic.
Moea'I tacked on her fourth service ace of the day later in the second set to keep the Utes ahead of CBU 17-12.
CBU would not go away quietly and tied the set up 23-23, forcing the Utes to call a timeout. Utah struck first out of the break, earning set point, but the Lancers struck back making it a 24-24 affair.
Utah and CBU were unrelenting down the stretch posting five ties before the Utes took the set with a 29-27 score.
SET THREE
Energized after toughing out a hard-fought second set win, the Utes got to work fast and early in set three, jumping to a 15-8 lead Hallmarked with three service aces, two from Mijacic, and one from
Leah Wilton-LaBoy.
Utah kept their foot on the gas, earning a quick set point 24-15 from a Moea'i kill before winning the third set, 25-15.
SET FOUR
The Utes kept the pace up, jumping to an 8-3 lead over the Lancers in set four, aided by three Gibadlo kills in a row.
Ace day continued for the Utes with Mijacic and Griffin posting one each (the fourth of the day for Mijacic) to get the Utes up, 17-11, forcing California Baptist to call timeout.
Moea'i logged her fifth ace of the day in the fourth set to give the Utes a 12-12 advantage. The Utes hit set point off a service error from CBU and clinched the match against California Baptist 25-16 with an
Allie Grossenbach kill.
STANDOUT STATS
- Utes Total Stats: 59 kills, 13 service aces, eight blocks, 45 digs.
- Gibadlo led the Utes in kills (20) coming just shy of tying her career-high for a third time this season.
- Moea'i set a career-high in aces (5) which led the team and came third in kills (9)
- Griffin set career-highs in kills (10) which was good for second on the team, total attempts (22), hitting percentage (.273), aces (1) and digs (7).
- Mijacic grew her resume with career-highs in kills (6), total attempts (12), hitting percentage (.250), and aces (4).
- Wilton-LaBoy led the Utes in assists (43).
UP NEXT
The Utes return to the SLO Classic Friday, Sept. 19, to take on Cal Poly at 7 p.m. MT. The game can be viewed on ESPN+. Utah then wraps up their non-conference run on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 12 p.m. MT against St. Mary's.
