SALT LAKE CITY – Seven members of the Utah Ski Team have been named Academic All-District, as announced today by College Sports Communicators.
The group includes
Joe Davies,
Zachary Jayne,
Sindre Myklebust and
Simen Strand from the men's team, along with
Celine Mayer,
Kaja Norbye and
Claire Timmermann on the women's side. All were instrumental in the Utes winning the 2025 NCAA Ski Championship, the program's 17
th national title all-time and fourth in the last five years.
A civil engineering major,
Davies made six collegiate starts this past season but balanced a challenging course load while also competing in six World Cup races. Each of his college competitions netted a podium result, capped off by an individual NCAA title in the men's 20K freestyle in which he won the mass start race by over a minute. He was named All-America both in classic and freestyle, as well as All-RMISA First Team. Of his six World Cup events, Davies recorded four top-20 finishes. Davies also was presented the Alf Engen Sportsmanship Award by the coaching staff at the conclusion of the season.
Jayne started all 14 races on the way to a pair of All-America citations. The mechanical engineering major had two individual race victories during the 2025 season, including an RMISA/NCAA West Regional title in the men's 7.5K classic. His first win as a member of the Utah program came in a photo finish, winning the Denver 10K freestyle by a tenth of a second. Jayne was named All-RMISA First Team and also received the Utah Ski Team Academic Award at the program's postseason banquet. At NCAAs, Jayne raced to eighth in the men's 7.5K classic and 10
th in the 20K freestyle.
A three-year member of the team,
Mayer graduated with a degree in biology and capped off her college racing career with All-America laurels in the women's 7.5K classic. She competed in every race this past season, winning an RMISA/NCAA West Regional championship in the 7.5K classic. It earned Mayer the RMISA Skier of the Meet award for regionals, paving the way for her to place fifth at the national meet in the women's 7.5K classic and 19
th in the 20K freestyle, securing key points as Utah won the team title. She was the Nordic recipient of the 2025 Toril Forland Award, presented by the coaching staff to the outstanding female skier.
Another mechanical engineering major,
Myklebust was an All-American in giant slalom and pulled in All-RMISA honorable mention. He started all 14 events for the season, earning seven finishes in the top-10 and a runner-up result in the Montana State giant slalom. Myklebust also put on an eighth-place performance in slalom during an RMISA qualifier race, before finishing up the season at the NCAA Championships with eighth in giant slalom and 15
th in slalom.
Named Academic All-District for the second straight year,
Norbye had 11 individual top-10 results in her final collegiate season and was a first-team All-American in women's giant slalom. Over her final six starts, she skied to five podiums, including silver in slalom during the RMISA Championships. At NCAAs, Norbye placed fifth in GS and 15
th in slalom. After earning a Bachelor's degree in finance from the U, she completed a Master's in the same discipline this past year. She was named the team's Alpine MVP following the season.
Strand came to Utah for his graduate season after completing an undergrad degree in business administration. Once with the Utes, he took on graduate studies in finance and ultimately earned his Master's degree in May. On the hill, Strand raced in all 14 events with seven top-10 finishes and two podiums. The two-time All-American was also named All-RMISA First Team. Strand earned an eighth-place slalom result at the NCAA Championships before climbing to the top-five in GS.
Timmermann graduated in May with a degree in health and kinesiology, after earning four podiums and 10 top-10 finishes in her final season of college racing. The All-RMISA First Team pick claimed a silver medal in women's giant slalom during the RMISA Championships and placed sixth in GS during the NCAA Championships, helping the Utes climb atop the team podium after sitting fourth to begin the meet. Timmermann received the team's alpine Toril Forland Award, presented to the outstanding female skier.
