SCOUTING THE WEEKEND COMPETITION
- No. 2 TCU continues their home stand as this is the second weekend in a row where they are tasked with defending their home courts. Last weekend out in their "Fight in the Fort" competition, they won all four matches, without dropping a single set. TCU went 25-5 on the season and went undefeated versus Big 12 opponents, which earned them the No. 1 seed in the Big 12 Tournament.
- No. 12 Arizona State comes into postseason play with a 20-12 record on the year. Currently, the Sun Devils are on a three-match win streak. In the COE Challenge in San Luis Obispo, Calif., the Sun Devils faced four opponents ranked in the top seven of the AVCA rankings. ASU dropped their first three matches but had an upset victory over the No. 7 ranked Florida State. Arizona State earned the No. 2 seed in the Big 12 Tournament.
- The Arizona Wildcats are 18-10 on the season and currently receiving votes in the AVCA coaches poll. In the Boise State Invitational, Arizona went 1-1 over the weekend. Their first match they took a convincing 5-0 victory over the University of Portland. In their second match they rematched with Boise State whom they played in the Cactus Classic in Tucson, Ariz. earlier in the season. The Wildcats lost to the Broncos, falling 2-3 for a second time this season. Arizona earns the No. 3 seed in the tournament as they have defeated the No. 4 seeded Utah twice this season.
UTAH SETS NEW RECORD FOR SINGLE SEASON WINS
The 2025 Utah beach volleyball made history last weekend at the LMU Invite, as they beat CSU Bakersfield by a score of 4-1 to record their 20
th win of the season. This marks as the most wins in a single season in Utah beach volleyball's nine-year history. The previous record was set just last season as Utah had 19 wins.
Coach Whicker shared post-match, "Super proud of how we showed up to compete this weekend. Accomplished a big goal of ours, to beat our wins from last year, and we finished our regular season with a win to do that."
HEAD COACH BRENDA WHICKER
Coach Whicker enters her ninth season at the helm of Utah beach volleyball. She is coming off the previously setting the record for winningest season in program history finishing with a record of 19-16, with a first-round Pac-12 Tournament victory over Oregon. In 2025, she has coached Utah to their most successful regular season in program history, ending with a record of 20-12. Whicker was a volleyball player at Utah under current volleyball head coach Beth Launiere from 1994-97. She holds the record for most aces in Utah volleyball history and is one of six players in Utah volleyball history to record 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in a career while playing for Utah.
