SCOUTING THE WEEKEND COMPETITION
- For the second week in a row, Utah gets to match up against Arizona. Last weekend, the Wildcats got the best of Utah, winning by just one set. Arizona has won eight of their last nine outings but took a mid-week loss to their in-state rival No. 12 Arizona State by way of a Sun Devil 5-0 sweep. They come into this weekend hunting for some quality wins to add to their successful 2025 season.
- There is a new top-team in the nation, as the No. 1 TCU Horned Frogs took the helm as the highest team ranked in the AVCA poll. TCU is on a tear currently, as they haven't lost since February 22nd. Over the weekend they achieved wins over No. 5 Stanford, No. 9 Long Beach State, and capped off the weekend with by sweeping then previous No. 1 ranked program, UCLA. They will get to match-up against No. 12 Arizona State for the second time on the season, with their last outing ending in a 4-1 TCU victory.
- Pepperdine heads into the Wildcat Spring Challenge with a record of 11-8. In the WCC Midseason Challenge, The Waves went 3-1 with victories over Portland, Saint Mary's and San Francisco. They fell short to No. 3 ranked LMU, with their No. 2 pair getting the lone victory over the Lions. In the latest AVCA ranking, they received one vote.
- For Utah's final match of the weekend, they are set to take on No. 12 Arizona State. Last weekend Arizona State hosted a weekend invitational where they went 4-0, including a 4-1 victory over No. 19 Washington. The Sun Devils will get a second try against No. 1 TCU, whom they were defeated by in the Kahanamoku Classic to start the season. Against common opponents with Utah, ASU defeated No. 20 FIU, as well as beating Arizona in straight sets.
COLLINS AND GRIFFIN WIN FOUR STRAIGHT
Utah's No. 2 Pair this past weekend was
Langley Griffin and
Ellyn Collins, and they were nothing short of dominant. Collins, who has been successful all season in the third flight moved up to the No. 2 pair for the weekend in the absence of
Bella Vezzani. The weekend started with a straight-set victory over UC Davis, followed by beating the Boise State Broncos, who received votes in the latest AVCA Poll in a straight set victory. On day two, the duo posted an electric comeback victory to beat the Arizona Wildcats.
The pairing came back from a first set loss, won the second set in extra points and took the win in the tiebreaker. They sealed the deal on the sweep of the Utah Beach Classic by beating Oregon in straight sets and only allowing nine points in the second set.
UTAH BEACH CLASSIC
Over March 28 & 29, the Utes hosted the fourth-ever Utah Beach Classic at the Lassonde Sports Courts on campus. Day two started by recognizing Utah's seven seniors,

Here is what Coach Whicker had to say after the weekend. "We were so excited to play our first and only home matches. We knew every match was going to be a battle. Our team stepped up to the challenge and showed up for every match. I was so proud! Came up with some big wins and barely lost a close one to Arizona. A BIG thank you to everyone that came out to cheer us on. Such a fun environment to play in."
