SALT LAKE CITY –
Gabe Madsen of Utah men's basketball is set to compete at the 71st Annual Portsmouth Invitational Tournament this week at Churchland High School in Portsmouth, Va., from April 16-19.
The four-day event will be
live streamed with
live stats available as well. For those looking to attend, ticket purchases can be made
online or in person at the door.
Madsen marks the second-straight year a Runnin' Ute will participate in the P.I.T. following
Branden Carlson last season.
The 6-6 guard led Utah in scoring this past year, averaging 15.2 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists. Madsen posted a season-high of 28 points twice in 2024-25, first against Eastern Washington at home during the non-con slate and then again at Cincinnati in Big 12 play behind a career-high tying eight made 3-pointers.
His 101 made 3-pointers this season was second-most in a single-season at Utah, trailing only himself – who drained a single-season school-record of 105 in 2023-24. Meanwhile, his 314 attempts from beyond the arc in 2024-25 is most in a single-season at Utah.
At the conclusion of his fourth and final season as a Runnin' Ute, Madsen left as the program leader in 3-point field-goals made (314) and 3-point field-goal attempts (871) while closing out his career at No. 20 on the all-time scoring list (1,461).
