SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah tennis head coach
Roeland Brateanu is excited to announce the signing of AJ Deem to join the Utes in the fall of 2025.
"I am extremely excited for the opportunity to play tennis at the University of Utah," said Deem. "From the moment I stepped on campus, I felt a strong connection to the community here and the passion around Utah athletics. The opportunity I have to grow as both a player and a person within such a great culture at the U made it the perfect fit for me. I'm very eager to get on campus in the fall and contribute to the team's success and represent Utah in the best way possible."
The Fort Worth, Texas native achieved a career-high national ranking of No. 42 and ranked as high as No. 3 in Texas in the Boys 18s division, making him a five-star recruit at his signing. A dominant force in high school tennis, he was an all-state selection all four years while posting an outstanding 52-5 record at No. 1 singles.
Deem also excelled on the national stage, reaching the quarterfinals in doubles at the L1 National Hard Courts in Kalamazoo, Mich., and the semifinals of the L1 National Clay Courts in Delray Beach, Fla.
"AJ exhibits all the components of the perfect student-athlete," Brateanu said. "We are honored to have him join our Ute family. We can't wait to start working with him."
