Utah picked up its third straight win on Saturday night at Baylor
IRVING, Texas — Coming off a road victory over Baylor, the 13th-ranked Utah football team was honored with a pair of Big 12 Conference awards on Monday. Quarterback Byrd Ficklin was tabbed Freshman of the Week while the Utes also claimed Offensive Line of the Week.
Â
It is the fourth time this season that Utah has won Offensive Line of the Week and second time Ficklin has been named Freshman of the Week. The Wasatch Front previously picked up weekly honors in Week 1, Week 7 and Week 9. Ficklin earned the freshman nod, as well as Offensive Player of the Week, following the Week 9 win over Colorado.
Â
Ficklin needed just six carries to rush for a career-best 166 rushing yards and included touchdown runs of 67 and 74 yards. He became the first Utah Ute since at least 1996 to rush for 145-plus yards on less than 10 carries. His 67-yard dash to the end zone during the second quarter was Utah's longest offensive play of the season, until he went 74 yards for another score in the third quarter. His 166 rushing yards broke Ficklin's own program record for single-game rushing yards by a quarterback; in last month's win over Colorado he put up 151 yards on the ground.
Â
Thanks in part to the guys up front, Utah totaled five rushing touchdowns on the night. In addition to Ficklin's two long touchdown runs, running back Wayshawn Parker logged a 64-yard score among 129 rushing yards for the night. The Utes needed just 59 plays to rack up 483 yards of total offense while averaging 8.2 yards per play.
Â
Overall, Utah's rushing attack gained 380 yards on the ground and has now rushed for 300-plus yards three times this season. Utah has eclipsed 200 yards in nine of 10 games, including each of the last six outings. It was also the third straight game Utah has had a player rush for 100+ yards.
