SALT LAKE CITY – The winningest head coach in Utah women's basketball history, Elaine Elliott, will be permanently recognized in the Jon M. Huntsman Center on Feb. 14 with a banner raised to the rafters in her honor. Elliott's banner celebrations will take place over the duration of that weekend with a reception Friday, Feb. 13. The banner unveiling will take place at halftime of the Feb.14 matchup against Cincinnati.
Elliott is also set to become the color analyst on the Utes' ESPN+ broadcasts alongside play-by-play announcer Krista Blunk for the home games of the 2025-26 season.
More details for alumni, donors and fans on how to attend the banner celebrations will be announced at a later date.
Elliott, who amassed an all-time record of 582-234 as head coach of the Utes from 1982-2010, will be immortalized with a banner displaying "582" for her number of wins. She is not only the winningest coach in program history, but also the winningest head coach in Mountain West Conference women's basketball history.
She spent 27 seasons at the helm of the Utes from 1982-2010, and was named the John Wooden National Coach of the Year in 2001, as well as the WBCA District Coach of the Year five times (2009, 2008, 2001, 2000, 1998). She posted 20 or more wins in 20 different seasons.
Under Elliott's guidance, the Utes claimed 15 conference championship titles and made 14 NCAA appearances, including Utah's only appearance in the Elite Eight in 2006. She also made it to the Sweet 16 in 2001 and 2006.
Elliott coached 16 players to All-America honors and had four players drafted into the WNBA. She was inducted to the Utah Athletics Hall of Fame in 2014 and coached seven players who are also in the Utah Athletics Hall of Fame. In addition, her 2006 team was inducted into the Hall in 2023.
She also is a member of the Utah Sports Hall of Fame, inducted in 2016, and the Boise State Athletics Hall of Fame, as part of the Class of 1983.
