With the home schedule now wrapped up, the Utes averaged 52,962 fans in Rice-Eccles Stadium throughout the season; it's a new facility record surpassing the 2023 average of 52,499.
Utah won the coin toss and deferred to the second half. The Utes defended the North end zone to begin the game.
 Offense
True freshman quarterback Isaac Wilson made his seventh start of the season; it ties Travis Wilson (during the 2012 season) for the most by a true freshman in recorded Utah history.
Wilson completed all eight of his pass attempts; it is the longest streak for Wilson to begin a game this season, surpassing the Arizona game when he completed his first seven passes that night.
Utah's very first offensive play was a 46-yard completion from Wilson to wide receiver Daidren Zipperer. It was a career-long reception for Zipperer, and the longest game-opening play by the Utes since a 70-yard touchdown pass in the 2023 season opener vs. Florida (Bryson Barnes to Money Parks).
Quarterback Luke Bottari came on in relief of Wilson late in the third quarter; Bottari was 5-of-9 passing for 55 yards and rushed four times for 47 yards. Bottari's night included a career-long 40-yard keeper that put Utah into the red-zone midway through the fourth quarter.
Wilson (2) and Bottari (1) combined for three chunk completions (gains of 15-plus yards); altogether those three completions gave the Utes 79 yards.
Zipperer set career-bests with four receptions, 66 receiving yards and his long reception of 46 yards.
Fellow wideout Zacharyus Williams set a new career-best with three catches in the game after entering the night with one as a Ute.
Wide receiver Dorian Singer reached 50 catches for the season with his six-yard reception in the second quarter. His career-high is 66 during the 2022 season, when Singer played at Arizona.
Offensive lineman Keith Olson (LG), Williams and Zipperer each made their first starts as a Ute.
 Defense
As a team, the Utes had 10 pass breakups on the night; it tied the most for the squad since the game at USC on Oct. 9, 2021.
Linebacker Lander Barton made an 87-yard pick-six during the second quarter; it extends Utah's FBS-leading active streak to 21 consecutive seasons with a pick-six. It is the longest streak in recorded NCAA history. It is also Barton's second career pick-six (the other was vs. Weber State in 2023).
The 87-yard return by Barton was the longest by a Utah linebacker in history, longest by a Ute since 2018 (Jaylon Johnson, 100 vs. Stanford) and ninth-longest in Utah history.
Including Barton tonight, the Utes have 46 interception return touchdowns since the streak began in the 2004 season. It broke the tie with Alabama (45) for the most in FBS during that time.
Cornerback Cameron Calhoun and defensive tackle Junior Tafuna each had three pass breakups, tying Smith Snowden (at Oklahoma State) for the most by a Ute this season. Both PBU totals were career-highs for Calhoun and Tafuna.
The last time that Utes had two players with three passes defended (combined PBU and interceptions) was at Michigan in 2014, when Eric Rowe had three PBU and Brian Blechen had an interception plus two PBU.
Strictly talking about PBU, the last time multiple Utes had three-plus breakups in a game was vs. New Mexico in 2007, when Brice McCain and Sean Smith had four each.
Safety Rabbit Evans led the Utes with a career-high 12 tackles on the night; it matched Iowa State's Malik Verdon for the most by a player in the game.
Evans' 12 takedowns tied the performance at Houston by Lander Barton for the most tackles by a Ute this season. It surpassed Evans' prior career-best of nine tackles in the game this season at Arizona State.
Nickel back Smith Snowden tied his career-high with six tackles.
Defensive tackle Aliki Vimahi set new career-bests with five tackles and 1.5 TFL.
Linebacker Karene Reid tied his season-high with eight tackles; previously Reid had that total vs. TCU and BYU.

Linebacker Johnathan Hall (1.5 TFL) now has 3.5 of his team-leading 9.0 TFL in the last two games. It's the most in a season by a Utah linebacker since 2022, when Mohamoud Diabate finished the season with 13.5 TFL and Karene Reid had 9.5 TFL.
Fellow defensive end Connor O'Toole (6 tackles, 1.0 TFL) eclipsed 100 career tackles as a Ute and reached the 15 TFL mark.
