Provo, Utah –The No. 20 Utah Volleyball team traveled south to Provo to take on in-state and Big 12 Conference rival No. 24 BYU, falling to the Cougars in an instant classic, 2-3 (21-25, 27-25, 25-23, 23-25, 12-15).

Utah was tested in the first set, trailing BYU 13-15 at the media timeout. The back-and-forth down the backstretch of the first set began, as the scoreboard flashed a tie score at 17, 18, 19 and 20. The Cougars put together a pair of scoring streaks to take the first set, 25-21.

The Utes could not be denied in the second set, jumping out to an early 7-3 lead. Utah continued to add to its advantage, doubling up on the Cougars after stringing together a five-point scoring run, taking the lead up to 14-6. The Utes saw kills come from
Ashley West,
Allie Olsen and
Lauren Jardine, to get the offensive rally ignited. Utah was forced to fend off a pair of four-point runs by the Cougars to help maintain the lead at 21-17. After one final back-and-forth, BYU put together a five-point run to tie the match at 23-23. After a marathon rally,
Kamryn Gibadlo put away the go-ahead kill for the Utes at 26-25.
Lauren Jardine brought the match back to even at one set apiece, serving up an ace, giving Utah the 27-25 set victory.

Utah kept the momentum rolling into the third set, stringing together an eight-point run throughout the early stages to secure a 12-7 lead. The Utes didn't look back, exchanging points with BYU and maintaining the advantage. Putting away the final two kills for the Utes were Gibadlo and
Kamry Bailey, sealing the set victory, 25-23.

In the fourth set, Utah was unable to put together any sort of significant scoring run. The two sides were knotted up at 15 at the media timeout, coming off the kill from Bailey. Coming out of the break, the Cougars put together a five-point run, taking their largest lead of the match, 20-15. The Utes fought back with a three-point swing, getting kills from Gibadlo, West, along with a combo block from
Emrie Satuala and West, bringing the score to 23-22. BYU would go on to force the fifth set, taking the final 25-23.

There was no budging in the fifth set, as the Utes put together a three-point run, taking a 10-7 lead. The Cougars responded with a pair of two-point swings, evening the score at 11-11.
Allie Olsen put away the final kill for the Utes, before BYU tallied four consecutive points, taking the final set 15-12.

STANDOUT STATS
- Six Utah attackers tallied double-digit kills, as Kamryn Gibadlo recorded a team-high 16 kills, coming up just one shy of her career-high.
- Emrie Satuala posted a season-high 14 kills, adding five blocks and one ace to her total.
- Posting the team-high hitting percentage, Allie Olsen finished with a .588 clip, putting down 12 kills with five blocks.
- Lauren Jardine added 11 kills for the Utes, with Ashley West and Kamry Bailey each posting 10. West tallied a season-high in kills.
- Isabelle Marco hits the 30+ assist mark for the second time this season, finishing her first BYU rivalry match with 31. Grace Hammond added 26 for the Utes.
- Claranne Fechter tallied a team-high 23 digs and three aces.

The Utes will continue their road stand, making their first trip to the Sunflower State as a member of the Big 12, taking on Kansas State on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m. MT. Utah will close out the three-game road trip, traveling to Lawrence to take on #8 Kansas at 2 p.m. MT.
