SAN FRANCISCO – Utah Athletics saw 86 student-athletes from eight sport programs honored today by the Pac-12 Conference with the release of the 2023 Spring Academic Honor Roll. For the entire 2022-23 school year, 269 Utah student-athletes were recognized by the Pac-12 for academic success, including 73 from the fall sports and 110 from the winter sports, announced earlier this year.
Â
The Spring Academic Honor Roll includes Utah student-athletes who participate in the sports of baseball, beach volleyball, men's golf, lacrosse, softball, men's tennis, women's tennis and women's outdoor track and field.
Â
The academic success by the Utes' spring sports programs matches the excellence demonstrated in competition, as these programs put an exclamation point on the most successful year in the department's history in every major objective measure. Among the highlights from the spring sports, the Pac-12 tournament champion softball program reached the Women's College World Series for the first time since 1994; Pac-12 co-champ men's tennis advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championships; ASUN champion lacrosse earned its first NCAA tournament berth; and women's track and field recorded its highest finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Â
For the year, Utah won 10 total conference championships by seven sport programs (combined regular season, tournament and championship game), and sent a record eight teams to the NCAA Championships or a bowl game for the second year in a row. This resulted in Utah's highest ranking in the LEARFIELD Director's Cup since the program was introduced in 1993-94, placing 28th.
Â
In all, 1,259Â student-athletes from the 12 institutions that form the "Conference of Champions" were recognized for their work in the classroom in the spring seasons. Any student-athlete on their respective team roster with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.3-or-above, and who has served at least one year in residence at the institution, is eligible for the distinction.
