PROVO, Utah – The Utah track & field team had a solid start to the indoor season, winning a couple events to go along with top-3 finishes on Friday inside Smith Fieldhouse at the BYU Opener.

Josefine Eriksen had a great debut in the red and white and won the 600-yard race with a time of 1:20.40 in her first-career collegiate indoor meet.
Jasie York (1:27.77) and
Rachel Whipple (1:29.36) each won their respective sections to finish in fifth and sixth overall, respectively.

Running in just her second indoor race ever,
Bailey Kealamakia took second in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9:08.
Lauren O'Banion, who ran in her first 300m sprint, took sixth overall after crossing the finish line at 40.39.

In the 60m dash,
Maya LeBar broke her previous PR mark twice – the second of which ended up being third-best time in program history after altitude conversion (7.68). She first set a PR in her prelim run with a time of 7.78 to win heat 1 before posting a 7.66 in the finals to take third overall and move into third all-time after surpassing her previous PR time of 7.84 (7th all-time).

Kelise Davis posted a mark of 7.80 in her first 60m dash before running a 7.85 in the finals for eighth overall. Freshman
Megan Rose won her heat with a time of 7.90 in her collegiate debut but just missed the qualifying time for finals. Meanwhile,
Taylor Watson took second in her heat at 7.94 with
Makenna McCloy posting a mark of 7.98 for a new PR in the 60m dash.

Utah's top relay team comprised of
Oneillia Fuller,
Brooklyn James,
Skyler Blair and Eriksen had a great showing in the 4x320m, winning with a top time of 2:51.19 while the tertiary squad of Rose, York, Whipple and Watson took third overall with a time of 2:56.23.

Sophomore
Delaney Gates got things going for the Utes earlier on Thursday in the long jump. The Elk Grove, Calif., native managed to get one qualifying jump in and leapt a distance of 4.81m (15-9.25) before fouling out on her third attempt.

Utah will now take a holiday break before returning to campus next year and prepare for the Snake River Open on Saturday, Jan. 15, at Holt Arena to hit the indoor season full swing.
