SALT LAKE CITY – The 41
st ranked University of Utah men's tennis team was unable to come away with a victory earlier today against No. 19 USC, falling to the Trojans 2-4. With this loss, the Utes will move to an overall record of 12-5 on the season, and are now 0-2 in conference play.
In doubles, USC was able to take the early lead by earning the doubles point against the Utes. On court No. 1,
Slava Shainyan and
David Micevski were unable to come away with a victory against 28
th ranked Brandon Holt and Riley Smith, falling 6-2. Laurens Verboven and Jack Jaede then sealed the point for USC as they defeated
Dan Little and
Randy Cory at the No. 2 spot, 6-3.
Utah's two wins of the day came in singles, with No. 64
Dan Little upsetting 16
th ranked Brandon Holt at the No. 1 position with a score of 7-5, 7-5. Then on the No. 2 court, Micevski was able to pull off an upset of his own, as he defeated 51
st ranked Logan Smith with a score of 7-6, 6-3.
The University of Utah men's tennis team will be back in action next week, as they will make a road trip to Irvine, California, to take on UC Irvine. The Utes' match with UC Irvine is set to take place on Wednesday, March 13
th, with competition set to start at 2 p.m. MT.
