Utah picks up first win of the season over San Francisco.
MORAGA, Calif. – The Utah beach volleyball team picked up its first win of the season on Friday after taking down San Francisco 3-2 in Utah's opening dual of the Saint Mary's College Tournament. The Utes faced No. 20-ranked Saint Mary's shortly after and dropped the contest 5-0 at the Moraga Commons in Moraga, Calif.

Against San Francisco, Olivia Teerlink and Kinga Windisch evened the dual score 1-1 after taking the win at the No. 5 position for Utah. The duo won the match in straight sets (21-16, 21-17) to pick up their first win as a pair.

Tied 1-1, Utah's No. 2 pair of Kenzie Koerber and Megan Yett battled once again in close sets and pulled out a two-set victory, downing their opponent 21-18 in the first set followed by another tight set win, 22-20. Jessica Villela made her debut on the sand for the Utes and teamed up with Lauren Sproule in the No. 3 position where they would go on to clinch the dual win for Utah. Sproule and Villela took the first set but dropped the second set. The pair came away with a 15-10 third-set victory.

Utah closed out Friday's play against tournament host, No. 20-ranked Saint Mary's, and dropped the match 5-0. Koerber/Yett were the only duo to take a set against the Gaels, but ultimately fell in the third set to Saint Mary's No. 2 pair.

Utah will close out the Saint Mary's College Tournament tomorrow morning against Feather River College with the first serve at 10 a.m. MT. The match will be held at the Moraga Commons in Moraga, Calif.
