Utah Beach Volleyball Sweeps Feather River on Saturday

Utes dominate on final day of the Saint Mary's Tournament.
MORAGA, Calif. – The Utah beach volleyball team closed out its opening weekend of the season with a dominant win over Feather River on Saturday at the Moraga Commons. The Utes swept the Golden Eagles and did not drop a set at any position.

In the 10 sets played in the dual, Utah managed to keep Feather River to single digits in five of the sets. Utah moved to 2-2 on the season with the win and finished the Saint Mary's Tournament 2-1.

Utah's No. 4 pair of Phoebe Grace and Keana Smalls tabbed their first win as partners in convincing fashion to give the Utes the first point of the dual. Shortly after, Alexa Van Komen and Kinga Windisch extended the lead to 2-0. Van Komen and Windisch teamed up for the first time in competition on Saturday and saw time as Utah's No. 5 pair.

Kenzie Koerber and Megan Yett stayed solid as the No. 2 pair for the Utes, while Lauren Sproule and Jessica Villela also remained in the No. 3 position. Both duos tabbed straight set victories to clinch the team win. Dani Drews and Tawnee Luafalemana continued as partners in the No. 1 spot for Utah and completed the sweep for the Utes over Feather River.

Playing in an exhibition match, Olivia Teerlink and Kinga Windisch paired together and continued the trend on the day and won their match in straight sets as well.

The Utah beach volleyball team will have nearly a month off from competition before returning to the sand on Friday, April 5. Utah will head to the Grand Canyon Tournament to face Grand Canyon, Long Beach City College, and UAB with all matches played on Friday. Following the matches in Phoenix, Utah will then take part in the Arizona State Tournament in Tempe the next day and face Arizona State, Abilene Christian, and Arizona on Saturday.Â
