Utes Finish Opening Weekend Undefeated

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah men's tennis team finished their opening weekend with two wins today, as they beat Utah State and Idaho State. The Utes topped off the Aggies with a score of 4-3, and then swept the Bengals 7-0 later in the day.
Against Utah State, the Utes took the early advantage by earning the doubles point. The team consisting of Randy Cory and Russell Benkaim picked up the first win, finishing with a score of 6-4 at the No. 2 spot. Egbert Weverink and David Micevski then finished things off with a win at the No. 3 spot, defeating Sergiu Bucur and Samuel Serrano with a score of 7-5.
In singles, Dan Little picked up a quick win against Jaime Barajas at the No. 1 spot, finishing 6-4, 6-3. Micevski followed with a win at the No. 2 position, besting Samuel Serrano with a score of 6-2,6-1. To give the Utes the win, Santiago Sierra defeated Addy Vashistha on the No. 6 court with a final score of 6-4, 6-1.
Later in the day against Idaho State, the Utes also started things off by capturing the doubles point. Cory and Benkaim picked up another win at the No. 2 spot, finishing things off with a score of 6-4 against David Felix and Francis Filipovich. Azat Hankuliyev and David Micevski then secured the point at the No. 3 psotion, defeating William Eden and Adam Hornby with a final score of 7-5.
In singles, all six Utes finished off the Bengals in straight sets, finishing off the weekend with a record of 4-0.
The Utah man's tennis team will be back in action on January 26th and 27th as they will attend the Harvard Kick-Off, which will be held in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
