SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah volleyball team is set to embark on a 12-day European Tour, May 28-June 8, through the Czech Republic, Austria, Slovenia, and Italy. The Utes will play a total of six matches throughout the tour, which includes two matches in Prague, two matches in Maribor and a pair of matches in Rome to close out the excursion.

"We are very excited for this tour from both an educational and competitive standpoint," said Utah head coach
Beth Launiere. "The value of this trip cannot be measured, because it is an experience of a lifetime. The opportunity to tour some of the greatest cities in Europe, along with the opportunity to play the sport we love against some very good teams, is what makes this trip special. Traveling with teammates and coaches will create a lot of lasting memories."

"These matches will be challenging and they will provide a great opportunity to learn about our team this summer," said Launiere. "We will play both professional club and national teams, so the level of competition should make us better. We will be playing with a different type of volleyball, but matching up against these types of teams will provide us some great feedback for where we are heading into the 2017 season."
This marks the first international trip for the Utah volleyball program to go overseas as a team since 2006. Launiere traveled to Europe last summer as head coach of the U.S. Collegiate National Team (CNT-Europe), while assistant coach
Malia Shoji and
Adora Anae traveled to China as part of the Pac-12 Conference All-Star volleyball team.
Berkeley Oblad and
Bailey Choy also had the opportunity to travel through Europe this past summer, competing in the European Global Challenge in Pula Croatia.
