LOGAN--The University of Utah women's tennis team defeated in-state foe Utah State, 4-2.
The Utes started doubles competition strong with a dominant 6-1 win by
Margo Pletcher and
Brianna Turley in the No. 1 spot. They ultimately lost the doubles point lost with 6-2 and 7-5 defeats.
The Utes came back in singles play with four solid wins to clinch the match.
Alexia Petrovic defeated Lucy Octave in two sets, 6-2, 6-3, while
Whitney Turley and
Jena Cheng also recorded two-set victories. Turley defeated Hannah Jones, 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 5 spot and Cheng defeated Sabrina Demerath, 6-4, 7-5, in the No. 4 spot.Â
Luisa Gerstner Da Rosa added a three-set win over Sophia Haleas, 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 to finish things off.
"This was a very tough match on the road (against) an inspired opponent with nothing to lose. It will make us stronger down the stretch" said Head Coach
Mat Iandolo.
The Utes return to the Eccles Tennis Center Friday to face the Oregon Ducks at 1:30 p.m.
