FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - For the second night in a row, school records fell at the Pac-12 Men's Swimming Championships as
Daniel McArthur set a new Ute mark in the 200 IM and
Jack Burton did the same in the 200 breast.
McArthur started the day by setting a new program standard during the prelims with a time of 1:45.34. However, he was surpassed by freshman
Ethan Dillard in a later heat (1:45.08).
McArthur would reclaim the top spot during the evening's "B" final with a time of 1:44.86, which also passed the NCAA invite "B" cut standard.
Sophomore
Austin Phillips would capture the "C" final with a new PR of 1:46.20. Altogether, the Ute trio now sit 1-2-3 on the program's all-time leaderboard.
Burton swam during a time trial and eclipsed his own school mark of 1:55.99.
Rahiti De Vos had Utah's highest finish of the night, placing eighth overall in the 500 free. His time of 4:20.97 was a new PR as the freshman still ranks third all-time in the event among Utah swimmers. He also hit his mark on making a time that puts him in consideration for the NCAA Championships.
Brandon Shreeve and
Matteo Sogne both qualified for the "C" final and now rank sixth and seventh respectively all-time at Utah, finishing within three-hundredths of a second to one another.
Laim O' Haimhirgin also captured a win in a "C" final this evening for the Utes during the 50 free. His time of 20.00 now ranks fifth all-time. He also qualified for a NCAA invite with a "B" cut time.
McKay King swam a 20.01 during prelims and now ranks sixth all-time while
Paul Ungur swam the event in 20.16 and now ranks ninth.
Tommy Baker (20.48) and
Colten Montgomery (20.52) competed in the "C" finals this evening for the Utes and both notched personal bests.
In the final event, the 200 free, the Utes were DQ'ed. Despite the unfortunate ending, King's leg of 19.84 surpassed his time from earlier in the evening and established a new PR.
The Pac-12 Championships will continue tomorrow at 11 a.m. PT with the prelims of the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast and 100 back. The finals of those events will get underway at 6 p.m. PT along with the 400 medley relay.
