Salt Lake City-- University of Utah women's tennis fell to the North Carolina State Wolfpack at home in a close 4-3 decision.
The Utes started off the match with a win at No. 3 doubles, when
Luisa Gerstner Da Rosa and
Alexia Petrovic defeated Tayla Stenta and Adriana Reami, 6-3. The Wolfpack ultimately clinched the doubles point with two hard-fought matches.
Margo Pletcher and
Brianna Turley fell in a tough match to Martina Frantova and Anna Rogers, 7-5, and
Jena Cheng and
Taylor Calton fell in a difficult match to Bianca Moldovan and Claudia Wiktorin, 7-6.
In singles competition, the Utes picked up three wins, but couldn't fend off the Wolfpack, as NC State also won three matches.
Brianna Turley pulled out a victory over Claudia Wiktorin, 7-6, 7-5 in the No. 2 spot while
Whitney Turley defeated Amanda Rebol, 7-5, 6-3, in the No. 6 spot and Pletcher defeated Martina Frantova, 6-3, 7-6.
The Utes will be back in action at the Eccles Tennis Center to face Houston on March 23 at 1:30 p.m. followed by Washington on March 24 at 1:30 p.m. for their first home match of the conference schedule. They also host Washington State at 11 a.m. and Weber State at 4 p.m. for a double-header on March 26. The Utes will also host Pac-12 opponents Stanford on March 31 at 2:30 p.m. and California on Apr. 2 at 1:30 p.m. before returning to the road to face USC and UCLA.
