Tempe, Ariz.--Â University of Utah women's tennis fell to No. 40 Arizona State, 0-4 in their first conference match of the season.
The Utes (3-2, 0-1 Pac-12) dropped the doubles point to the Sun Devils (6-3, 1-0 Pac-12) when
Margo Pletcher and
Brianna Turley lost to the No. 44 doubles duo of Alexandra Osborne and Nicole Fossa Huergo, 4-6, and
Taylor Calton and
Jena Cheng fell to Kelley Anderson and Savannah Slaysman, 2-6.
The Utes also had a tough run in singles competition against the Sun Devils.
Jena Cheng dropped a close first set to Nicole Fossa Huergo, 5-7, before also dropping the second set, 2-6. Pletcher and
Whitney Turley also fell in two sets to finish the match.
Brianna Turley won her first set, 7-6 and was down 4-5 in a close match against No. 48 Sammi Hampton when the Sun Devils clinched the dual-match win.
Alexia Petrovic also had a close match against a ranked opponent, Â No. 70 Kelley Anderson, 6-2, 4-6, 1-0.
The Utes are back in action on Saturday to face Arizona in Tucson at noon. Following their matches in Arizona, the Utes return home to the Eccles Tennis Center to host North Carolina State on Mar. 13 at 5 p.m.
