SALT LAKE CITY- The No. 17-ranked Utah Utes (20-8, 11-6 Pac-12) downed the Arizona State Sun Devils (10-19, 0-17) in straight sets (25-21, 25-19, 25-15) Friday night inside the Huntsman Center.

The Utes recorded a .355 hitting percentage in the sweep over the Sun Devils, while keeping Arizona State at a .194 clip. Utah also led both teams in kills (50-38), assists (49-37), service aces (3-1), and blocks (9.0-3.0).

Utah opened the match with two consecutive kills from
Adora Anae and continued to build a lead early in the first set. The Utes led 15-10 at the media timeout, but Arizona State scored six of the next eight points out of the timeout to trail Utah 17-16. Later leading 20-19, Utah would close out the first set on a 5-1 run with
Dani Barton notching a kill for the final point to take the set, 25-20. Anae and
Kenzie Koerber each recorded five kills in the frame to pace Utah's offense.

Arizona State opened the second set on a 7-2 run to lead Utah. Trailing the Sun Devils 10-7, Utah responded by going on an 8-0 run, which would include two kills and two blocks from
Tawnee Luafalemana, a pair of kills from Anae, and a kill from Koerber. The Utes maintained the lead throughout the set and led 21-18 late in the frame. Utah would once again close out a set on a run, scoring four of the final five points to take the frame, 25-19. Utah recorded five blocks during the second set to limit Arizona State to just a .088 hitting percentage.

Trailing 3-2 in the third set, Utah scored six straight points to jump out to an 8-3 lead. Arizona State cut the deficit to just 11-8, but Utah continued to hold the lead 16-12. Â Arizona State would only score three more points in the frame as the Utes scored nine of the final 12 points in the set, which included a 5-0 run in the mix.
Lauga Gauta clinched the set and the match with a kill to give the Utes the set 25-15.

Bailey Choy led the Utes with 37 assists on the night, giving her 1,034 total assists for the season. She becomes just the fourth player since 2004 to eclipse the 1,000-assist mark in a season and the first since Stephanie Neeley totaled 1,146 assists back in 2010.

Anae led the Ute offense after tallying a team-high 13 kills. Koerber registered 10 kills on a .529 hitting percentage, while also adding in three blocks on the evening.

Carly Trueman notched eight kills,
Berkeley Oblad added in seven kills, while Luafalemana pitched in six kills. Oblad totaled six blocks and Luafalemana also added in three blocks.

Shannon Scully recorded 10 digs in the sweep and
Brianna Doehrmann chipped in eight digs.

Utah will be back in action tomorrow for senior night at the Huntsman Center. First serve is at 7 p.m. against the Arizona Wildcats.
