SALT LAKE CITY- The University of Utah women's track and field team travels to Des Moines, Iowa from Thursday through Saturday to compete at the 107th annual Drake Relays. The runners will begin on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. CT at Drake Stadium. Athletes not competing at the Drake Relays will be at the OSU High Performance in Corvallis, Ore. and the Kip Janvrin Open in Indianola, Iowa.
"We are coming up on our last regular season meets of the year," Utah head coach Kyle Kepler said. "The Drake Relays is certainly one of the premiere track and field meets of the whole season. We will primarily run some relays, but will also have a few individuals running. We will be all over the country this weekend, but we are going to get some quality work in."
Redshirt senior Andrea Chavez currently ranks in the top 15 in the Pac-12 in both the 800 and 1,500. She is 37th in the in the nation in the 1,500, running a season-best time of 4:19.87. Fellow senior Ali Eisenbeiss ranks 11th in the Pac-12 in the 800 with a season-best time of 2:07.58.
True freshman Chrissy Glasmann ranks second in the Pac-12 and 41st in the country in the javelin with a personal-best throw of 158 feet, 10 inches.
The hurdle events will feature junior Christine Van Brocklin, who currently ranks 12th in the conference in the 400 hurdles. Van Brocklin has a season-best 400 hurdles time of 1:00.54.
Leading the Utes in the sprinting events will be junior Alissa Atisme, who broke her own school record in the 200 earlier this year (23.99).
Sophomore Shaylen Crook recorded the Pac-12's eighth fastest 10,000-meter time at the Mt. SAC Relays. Katelyn Stringfellow has the 10th-best Pac-12 time in the event this year.
