AZUSA, Calif.- Senior Andrea Chavez recorded the third fastest time in school history in the 1500-meter as the Utah track and field team recorded several impressive performances at the Bryan Clay Invitational and Mt. Sac Relays.
"Today we had a little bit of everything," Utah head coach Kyle Kepler said. "We had some lifetime bests, but also had some races that we would like to have back where we made some mistakes. We had a lot of different things going on today, and had some really quality races. We are making progress and I am excited to send a couple of kids to compete at BYU next week."
Chavez recorded a personal best time of 4:19.87 to capture first in her heat and ninth overall to rank third on the all-time school record list. Sophomores Sadie Wassum and Dakota Grossman also recorded personal bests. Wassum finished 78th overall with a time of 4:39.78 and Grossman earned 86th in 4:41.49. Senior Nikki Reitz placed 94th overall.
True freshman Chrissy Glasmann represented Utah in the javelin. Glasmann recorded a throw measuring 139 feet, 4.44 inches to place ninth overall.
The high jump featured Eliza Hansen claiming 29th after clearing a height of 5 feet, 0.24 inches.
Sophomore Madison Lanford led the way for the Utes in the hurdling events. In the 400-meter hurdles, Lanford finished in 29th with a time of 1:04.24. She followed up this performance by placed 43rd in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.71 seconds. Freshman Lauren McCluskey also competed in the 100 hurdles, placing 56th in 17.23 seconds.
In the 400, sophomore Mesa Weidle finished 46th with a time of 58.70 seconds.
McCluskey and Lanford returned to compete in the shot put, finishing 32nd and 33rd, respectively.
Meanwhile at the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif., the Utes recorded several impressive performances.
The 800-meter run featured redshirt senior Ali Eisenbeiss capturing fourth overall with a time of 2:08.87. Junior Grace Englund and Allison Aafedt also competed in the event, claiming 27th (2:12.71) and 29th (2:12.76), respectively.
In her first collegiate 5,000-meter run, sophomore Hannah McInturff recorded a time of 16:38.05 to place sixth in the open race. Sarah Feeny competed in the invitational race, finishing 47th with a time of 16:41.46.
Representing Utah in the sprinting events was junior Alissa Atisme. Atisme recorded a 200-meter time of 23.99 seconds to earn 24th overall, followed by a 100-meter time of 11.88 seconds for 41st.
In the 400-meter hurdles, junior Christine Van Brocklin placed 13th with a time of 1:01.76.
The Utes will compete next at the Robison Invitational in Provo, Utah on April 29th.
