SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah women's tennis team was swept by No. 27 USC at home on Friday at the Eccles Tennis Center.
The match began with the doubles point being won by Madison Westby and Zoe Katz over senior Sarah Richter and sophomore Alexia Petrovic 6-2. The point was then clinched by Rianna Valdes and Jessica Failla, beating junior Luisa Gerstner Da Rosa and freshmen Taylor Calton 6-4.
No. 22 Giuliana Olmos gave the Trojans a 2-0 lead with a win over sophomore Margo Pletcher 6-0, 6-0.
No. 108 Gabby Smith followed closely with a victory at the No. 4 position over sophomore Jena Cheng 6-3, 6-1.
To clinch and end the match, No. 95 Failla defeated Calton 6-4, 6-1. The rest of the matches were called early.
Next up for the Utes are the UCLA Bruins on Sunday, Apr. 3. Doubles play will begin at 11 a.m. MST and singles play will begin at 12:05 p.m. MST. The match will be broadcast by Pac-12 Network.
