Little and Sierra succeed in singles and doubles matches
BOISE, Idaho - Utah Men's Tennis had a successful first day at the Dar Walters Fall Classic with Dan Little and Santiago Sierra each winning in singles and doubles action.
In the "A" flight, Little, the No. 6 seed, defeated Zachary Hewlin of Whitman College, 7-5, 6-3, advancing to a match against Sam Serrano of Utah State at 10 a.m. Sierra, the No. 7 seed also picked up a win for the Utes, topping Quentin Wacquez of Idaho State, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. The Utah junior will play Felipe Fonseca of Idaho at 10 a.m.
Azat Hankuliyev was the No. 8 seed in the bracket but fell to Rok Sitar of Montana State, 7-6, 2-6, 6-3. He will continue in the consolation bracket with a match against Stefan Cooper of Weber State at 10 a.m. In the "B" singles bracket, Benjamin Heck knocked off Sam Larson of Portland State, 6-3, 6-1, but fell in the next round to Peter O'Donovan of Nevada, 6-4, 6-1. 
In doubles play, the No. 3-seeded duo of Sierra and Little picked up a win over BYU's Aidan Carrazedo and Derek Vincent, 6-2. Next up for the Utes is the pairing of Locas Coutinho and Estebam Santibanez of Idaho at 4 p.m. Hankuliyev and Heck were beaten in their doubles match, 7-5, by Chase Friedman and Petar Jivkov of Whitman College. They will continue to play in the consolation bracket tomorrow afternoon.
The tournament, which features over 90 student-athletes representing 15 colleges and universities from throughout the region, is officially sanctioned by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
