Little Advances to Finals at ITA Regionals

Sophomore with a chance to win a singles title tomorrow
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – One competitor remains for Utah men's tennis heading into the final day of action at the ITA Mountain Regionals. Dan Little moved on to the consolation finals with three victories on Saturday.
Little beat Jack Heslin of Boise State then knocked off Kris Van Wyk of Weber State in the quarterfinals 3-6; 6-3; 10-5. In the semifinals, he defeated Rodolfo Jauregui of New Mexico to earn a date against Denver's Pedro Fernandez Del Valle in the finals tomorrow morning.
Meanwhile, over in the main draw, Santiago Sierra's outstanding run came to an end with a loss to No. 3 seed Jacob Amilon of UNLV, 7-5, 6-3.
"Santiago had a fantastic week here in Las Vegas and played some outstanding tennis," head coach Roeland Brateanu said. "It's also been great to see Dan recover from an early loss and play so well in advancing to the finals."
In earlier consolation singles play, Slava Shainyan lost to UNM's Jauregui in his first match of the day 0-6, 6-1, 10-5.
In doubles action, Sierra and Azat Hankuliyev were the last Utes standing with two wins today to reach the semifinals. The other pairings, Little/Shainyan and Parker McGuiness/David Micevski each advanced to the quarterfinals before bowing out.
