Utah moves to 3-0 for the second straight season with a 45-24 win at Fresno State. Utah is now 7-4 all-time against Fresno State with wins in each of the last four. The Utes are 1-3 in Fresno and 297-154-11 all-time against current Mountain West Conference schools.
Senior running back Devontae Booker led Utah in rushing with 156 yards (31 carries) and two touchdowns, his third career multi-TD game (Idaho State and Oregon State in 2014). He scored in the second quarter on a 30-yard rush, his longest rush of the season, and on 7-yard rush in the third quarter. He has 14 career rushing touchdowns (16 total TDs). He led Utah with 212 all-purpose yards, which included a team-high 56 receiving yards (five catches).
Booker is tied for fifth in school history with ninth career 100-yard games. Booker is 14th in school history with 1,857 career rushing yards and his 376 career carries has him 15th.
After Fresno State opened the scoring with 35-yard field goal, the Utes scored 24 consecutive points. Utah's first score of the contest came after a 19-play drive that went 60 yards and resulted in a game-tying 33-yard Andy Phillips' field goal.
Junior defensive tackle Stevie Tu'ikolovatu scored on a 37-yard fumble return after a Kylie Fitts' sack forced a fumble. It was Utah's first fumble return for a touchdown since Davion Orphey had a 53-yard return for a score against USC on Oct. 25, 2014.
Freshmen Cory Butler-Byrd and Britain Covey both scored their first career touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Butler-Bryd returned a kickoff 98 yards and Britain Covey returned a punt 77 yards. The last time Utah had a kickoff and punt return for touchdown in the same game was against Idaho State in 2014.
Utah was 3-for-3 on fourth down attempt sand is now 7-of-8 on fourth-down attempts this season.
Utah forced two fumbles and has eight takeaways this season (five interceptions and three fumble recoveries). The Utah defense limited the Bulldogs to 24 yards of total offense in the first quarter.
Senior quarterback Kendal Thompson in his first start of the season (third career).He is 2-1 as the starter. Thompson ran 10 times for 31 yards (season-long of 20). Thompson was 19-of-25 passing (76%) for 159 yards (1 TD, 1 INT).
Eight different Utes caught passes, including Siale Fakailoatonga, who had three receptions for 45 yards.
In his first career start, Fitts had three tackles, two pass breakups and a forced fumble.
Senior linebacker Jared Norris had a team-high 10 tackles. Gionni Paul had six tackles, including 1.0 tackle for loss.
Tom Hackett averaged 44.0 yards per punt on two punts (88 yards) with a long of 50 yards.
Phillips went 1-for-1 in field goals with a 33-yard make in the first quarter. He is now 3-for-5 this season and 43-of-53 for his career. He was 6-for-6 on PAT attempts and is now 97-of-98 for his career.
Redshirt freshman Jackson Barton played for the first time on offense in his career at left tackle. He has appeared in all three games in special teams.
Sophomore wide receiver Kenric Young made his first reception of the season for three yards and senior defensive back Dominique Hatfield made his first start this season.
