LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Sophomore's Eliza Katoa registered 10 kills with a match-high .421 hitting percentage and Adora Anae recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 10 kills and 13 digs, but it was not enough as the Utes fell in straight (16-25, 24-26, 17-25) sets to the Ohio Bobcats at Cardinal Arena on Saturday.
Utah fell to 5-4 overall on the season and it marked the team's first two-match losing streak of the season after falling to tournament host Louisville last night. Meanwhile, Ohio improved to 7-2 with the win and the victory tied the all-time series with the Utes at one win apiece.
Ohio jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first set and never looked back en route to a 25-16 win. Utah managed to pull within three points of the Bobcats, down 19-16, but Ohio called a timeout and went on to earn the next six points and take the set.
The Utes would take a 21-14 lead midway through the second set when Alyssa Koenig and Emma Kirst recorded a block-assist for the Utes, but the Bobcats won the next four points - forcing Utah to call a timeout - and later closed out the set with a 12-3 run to take the set 26-24.
Katoa recorded a kill early in the third set to pull the Utes within a point, down 7-6, but that would turn out to be the closest Utah would get as the Bobcats ran away with a set that it never trailed in, 25-17.
Utah hit just .099 as a team and tallied 31 kills, 29 assists, 52 digs and 4.5 total team blocks.
Tess Sutton led the Utes with 15 digs, while Kirst, Koenig and Carly Trueman posted two blocks each.
The Utes will close out tournament play later today with a match against Seton Hall. First serve is set for 5:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. MT and live stats will be provided for the contest at www.GoCards.com.
