NEW ORLEANS - The Utah cross country team moved into 19th in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Coaches Poll, released on Tuesday, Oct. 20.
It is the first time that the Utes have been ranked in the USTFCCCA National Coaches Poll. Utah is one of five Pac-12 teams ranked.
"It's our first time ever in the poll so it is certainly a good feeling, but it is just a number in front of our name," Utah head coach Kyle Kepler said. "Our kids are looking at it and are dead set on not changing anything that we do. It is what has allowed us to be this successful to this point. We are going to keep moving forward, like we always have. It is great to get that kind of recognition and feel good for a minute, but that minute is gone. We are going to get back to work this week and start our preparations for the Pac-12 meet, which will be a knock down and drag out battle that it always is. We have four other [Pac-12] teams ranked in front of us and we will put our sights on them. All we can do is keep working on ourselves, stay focused, keep doing what we do and do everything we can to maintain our health."
Utah is also ranked fourth in the region.
The Utes are coming off a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Pre-National Invitational. Hannah McInturff finished fifth while Sarah Feeny was ninth to lead Utah. McInturff and Feeny have both finished in the top 10 in both races they have competed in this season, which included leading Utah to a fifth-place finish at the Notre Dame Invitational.
The Pac-12 Championships are hosted by Washington State at the Colfax Golf Club in Colfax, Wash., on Friday, Oct. 30.
