Head Coach Kyle Whittingham
Opening statement:
"It was a good win. I was really pleased with the offense, the tempo and the execution. The offense just played a really clean game. Travis [Wilson] looked good today. He distributed the ball for us, just like he did last week. The backs ran hard and the receivers made plays. [There were] really no negatives on offense and we didn't turn the ball over one time."
On the defense today:
"The first [team] defense was really good. We definitely improved our run defense - giving up 55 yards on 40 rushes - is really what we are all about."
On Tom Hackett's performance: "[Punter] Tom Hackett continues to flip the field for us. He is constantly giving us a 40, 50 or 60-yard field change when he punts the football. That is huge when you are on your own 23-yard line and when he puts it 50 to 60 yards down there. He is a great weapon."
On a negative from today's game:
"Really, the only negative is that we got a little sloppy at the end. With the No. 2 defense out there, that is going to happen sometimes. Still, we have to better than that."
Quarterback Travis Wilson
"It was a great job of our wide receivers getting open. A lot of what I did today was just our receivers getting open, so it was a great job by them. I think it was a combination of having a good running game as well. That helped open the passing game and we took advantage of some big plays.
"[The game] came a little bit easy to me today. We would like to have a few more completions, but we made some big plays off of the completions that we did make. I am just happy that we connected a lot in the end zone with the passing game."
Wide Receiver Dres Anderson
"We try to do our thing. We both work so hard during practice, so to see a show-and-tell on the field is just a great thing."
Wide Receiver Kenneth Scott
"We always have a competition. When I am on the field and I score first he just says to me that he has to get him one of those. If he was to score first, then I would say to myself that I have to get one of them."
Fresno State Head Coach Tim DeRuyter
On the how the game played out: "Clearly, we didn't get it done again this week. We played a Utah team where we needed to play at a top level to compete, and we got off to a poor start. We started playing better defensively in the second quarter. We could have had a little momentum going into halftime and then we gave it right back to them on that last drive of the first half."
"We came out in the second half and went three-and-out. Our offense did a nice job of getting a few first downs. We were at a point where we could get back into the ballgame, but we snapped the ball over our head and we turned it over."
"Overall, we lost the turnover margin and didn't force a turnover on defense. I saw some encouraging things but clearly not enough to beat a really good Utah team, so give them a lot of credit. We've got to get better. We've got Nebraska coming in this weekend and we've got to get this thing fixed. We're going to get it fixed."
On what falling behind early did to his team and the game plan:
"It affects your psyche when you fall behind early and you're on the road. It's difficult. We were getting off the field on third down, but we didn't make enough plays. You can't make it easy on a good team like that when you get down 17-0. Offensively, we had a tough start. We had five straight three-and-outs and that puts pressure on a team, and we didn't respond well enough. We have to be a team that drives on some momentum like everybody else. It's tough when you're on the road and you dig those types of holes. We'll be happy to get back home, but we've got to fix those things so we can have some success on the road."
On what led to Utah's success:
"They've got really good receivers. We knew that going in. They have a veteran quarterback. But clearly we were playing too soft of coverage at times, and then we let guys run by us at other times. We've got fundamentals that we've got to fix. We have to do it either through personnel or technique, probably a combination of both."
On comparing Utah and USC: "They're both spread teams. They both have excellent defenses. Upfront, I thought Utah was really good. I think that they both have weapons to throw to. Dres Anderson and Kenneth Scott are excellent receivers. Their running backs ran hard. It's hard to compare and say they're exactly the same, but they're both good football teams."
