Utes Sweep Singles Matches First Day in New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The University of Utah women's tennis team swept its singles matches on the first day of the USTA/ITA Regional Championships at New Mexico Wednesday.
The Utes won five of seven first-round matches with the only two losses tallied in doubles play. The singles sweep included victories from Luisa Gerstner Da Rosa, Lucia Kovarcikova, Alexia Petrovic, Victoria Robertson and Elena Najera-Salas. All five will advance to the singles round of 32 tomorrow.
Tereza Bekerova, Jena Cheng, and Sarah Richter will play their first singles matches tomorrow in the second round after tournament seeding granted them first-round byes.
Despite two first-round doubles losses today, the Utes are slated for two doubles matches tomorrow as Utah doubles duos Bekerova and Kovarcikova and Richter and da Rosa also received first-round byes.
Thursday's action will feature one round of doubles and two rounds of singles play.
