WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Day one of the 21st Annual Tribe Invitational came to a close as the Utes recorded four singles victories in the quarterfinals.
Utah's Tereza Bekerova, Callie Craig, Luisa Garstner Da Rosa and Sarah Richter easily retired their opponents, as each player claimed a singles victory in two sets.
Bekerova (62) defeated Jeljte Loomans (William and Mary), 6-2 and 6-3, while Craig bested William and Mary's Leeza Nemchinov, 6-3, 6-2.
Garstner Da Rosa topped Zita Engbroks (OU), 6-1, 6-2, as Richter claimed the victory from Sydney Smith (William and Mary), 6-3, 6-1.
Utah's doubles pairs didn't fair as well with Miles and Bekarova, ranked 18th nationally, falling to Ritchie and Devine (OU) 8-7. The pair also dropped their second match to Yau and Ng (Dartmouth) 8-5.
Competition continues tomorrow at 10:30 a.m.
