WALNUT, Calif. - University of Utah women's cross country student-athletes Alyssa Stetler and Rebekah Winterton were named to the Pac-12 Conference All-Academic Cross Country Team, announced this week by the conference. The Utes also had six student-athletes earn Honorable Mention All-Academic status.
"This is a terrific honor for a team that works extremely hard in the classroom and in our demanding sport," head coach Kyle Kepler said. "Our student-athletes put in a lot of time and effort that often goes unseen. Awards like this are a great reward for this team and our program as a whole.
"This is the eighth time in the last nine years our program has achieved this award and our student-athletes take pride in this tradition," Kepler continued. "They work hard every day to improve and achieve a high level for themselves and our alumni who established this tradition and expectation."
In order to be eligible for all-academic status, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be a significant contributor to the team.
In addition to Stetler and Winterton earning second-team accolades, the Utes had six members (Andrea Chavez, Susannah Hurst, Nicole Rietz, Alex Shaw, Giselle Slotboom, and Hilary Troutner ) receive honorable mention status.
On Saturday at 1:15 p.m. ET Winterton will represent the Utes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships. Live results and streaming of the race will be available at: http://www.ncaa.com/liveschedule/2013/11/23
