Hamza Falls in Final Qualifying Round

COSTA MESA, Calif. - Sophomore Slim Hamza fell in the fourth and final match of the qualifying round Monday at the Costa Mesa Tennis Center. Hamza suffered a 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 loss to Leo Rosenberg. Hamza was one of four Utes to appear at the USA F25 Futures Event and one of three to advance as far as the third round of qualifying play.
"It was a great experience for our guys to play in this Futures event," said assistant coach Roeland Brateanu. "It is good for them to play some very tough matches this early in the year and I hope they now realize that they can play with anybody."
The Utes return to action at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla., Sept. 29 through Oct. 7. Ranked Utes senior Dmytro Mamedov and Hamza will play in the main draw event, while fellow Utes juniors Alejandro Medinilla and Devin Lane, and sophomore Rafael Davidian will play in the pre-qualifying draw.
