ATHENS, Ga. - Senior Anastasia Putilina of the University of Utah women's tennis team fell in a hard-fought three-set match in the first round of the NCAA Singles Championships in Athens, Ga., Wednesday. After dropping the first, Putilina won the second set and then nearly went the distance in the third, but eventually fell to 35th-ranked Natalie Pluskota of Tennessee, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5.
"I am very proud of Anastasia," said Utah head coach Mat Iandolo. "She fought hard and put herself in a position to win this match. She had a great collegiate career and we will miss her."
Putilina finished the year with a 27-15 overall singles record as she capped a stellar Ute career. It was her second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Singles Championships. Earlier this week, Putilina was named the ITA Mountain Region Senior Player of the Year and was an Honorable Mention All Pac-12 choice at the end of the regular season.
