Utah split a pair of home matches last weekend at Crimson Court, defeating Oregon State in four sets on Friday before falling in three sets to third-ranked Oregon on Sunday. The Utes are now 12-13 overall with a 3-9 mark in Pac-12 play.
Utes Near Top of NCAA Blocking Ranks: Utah is seventh in the NCAA and second in the Pac-12's latest statistical rankings with a 3.06 block-per-set average as a team. Including league-games only, Utah is fourth with 3.01 blocks per set during Pac-12 matches. The Utes have outblocked their foes in 10 of their 12 victories this season and hold a 10-8 mark in that scenario in 2012.
Redd on the Rise: Junior middle blocker Erin Redd (Spanish Fork, Utah) hit .500 in home matches last week against Oregon State and No. 3 Oregon. She is sixth in the Pac-12 with a .363 hitting efficiency in league matches and ranks eighth with a .358 hitting percentage overall. She is also 10th in the rankings with 1.23 blocks per set in league play. In all matches this season, Redd has 2.30 kills, 1.16 blocks, 0.55 digs and 0.24 service aces per set for the Utes.
Morgan Mashes: Junior outside hitter Morgan Odale (Star, Idaho) has 938 career kills and needs to average 7.75 kills per match over the Utes' final eight regular-season contests to become the 13th member of Utah's 1,000-kill club.
Bateman Ballin': Utah sophomore middle blocker Bailey Bateman (Hooper, Utah) is second in the Pac-12 and ninth in the NCAA with 1.53 blocks per set this season and is second in the conference with 1.51 blocks per set in league matches only.
With 129 block assists this season, Bateman is 18 shy of tying Lori Baird (147 in 2008) for the 10th-highest single-season total in school history. Bateman owns 133 total blocks this season and needs to average 5.4 blocks per match to tie Sheila Cottrell-Sorensen (176 in 1985) and Linda Byington (176 in 1991) for 10th in the Utah single-season record book.
