Provo, Utah - The University of Utah women's cross country "B" team wrapped up competition at the BYU Invitational with 72 points to finish third-place overall.
"We didn't get out very well at the start," Utah head coach Kyle Kepler said. "We were fighting from the back the entire time."
With six of the Utah's top runners resting for the week,freshman Nikki Rietz led the way for the team with her 11th-place finish. Rietz had a slow start and was around the 40th position at the beginning of the race. As the race continued, Reitz fought her way back toward the front and finished with a time of 18:53.
Finishing second for the Utes and 22nd overall was freshman Macee Nielson with a time of 19:22.2.
Rounding out the scoring runners for the Utes were Katelyn Stringfellow (20:03.6), Nikki Dotter (20:04.6), and Alexis Davis (21:09.5) who finished 36th, 37th, and 40th, respectively for the Utes.
The overall team winner was BYU with 30 points, followed by Idaho State with 32 points.
"I liked the fight our group showed tonight," Kepler said. "I was also pleased with the overall individual effort."
The Utes continue their season Sept. 24 at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif.
