SAN DIEGO, Calif.- The 55th-ranked University of Utah women's tennis team (12-9, 6-1 MWC) rebounded from Friday's loss to upset 46th-ranked San Diego State (15-8, 6-1 MWC) Saturday, at the Aztec Tennis Center. After taking the doubles point, the Utes went 3-3 in singles for the 4-3 victory, with redshirt sophomore Lexi Provancha earning the match-clinching point with her 6-4, 6-4, defeat of Roxanne Ellison at the No. 6 singles position.

"Today was a great bounce back win for us after yesterday's heartbreaking loss," said head coach Mat Iandolo.

In doubles play, Provancha and senior Evgenia Kryuchkova dropped an 8-6 decision to Julia Wais and Alicia Aguilar at the No. 2 position.

Junior Anastasia Putilina and sophomore Paige Miles upset the 69th-ranked team of R. and Sierra Ellison at the No. 1 spot, 8-5, extending the Ute pair's run to 6-0.

The freshman duo of Sarah Pham and Lucia Kovarcikova bested Julia Trunk and Emma Cioffi, 8-7, at the No. 3 position, capturing the doubles point for Utah.

In singles play, Kryuchkova dropped a 6-0, 6-1, decision to Wais at the No. 2 spot, evening up the score at 1-1.

Pham won her eighth consecutive singles match when she downed Aguilar at the No. 3 position, 6-3, 6-1, giving the Utes a 2-1 lead over the Aztecs.

Miles fell to S. Ellison at the No. 5 spot, 6-4, 6-2, while Kovarcikova dropped a 7-6, 6-0 decision to Cioffi at the No. 4 position, putting SDSU up 3-2 over Utah.

Putilina, ranked No. 92, increased her run to 4-0 at the No. 1 spot when she topped Trunk, 6-3, 6-4, tying the score at 3-3.

Provancha then clinched the match for the Utes at 4-3, from the No. 6 position.

No. 55 Utah faces in-state rival BYU (9-10, 4-3 MWC) at noon Friday, April 22, at the BYU Tennis Complex in Provo.
