SALT LAKE CITY- Four University of Utah women's cross country student-athletes earned Fall 2010 Academic All-Conference honors, as announced by the Mountain West Conference on Thursday. The four athletes have a combined GPA of 3.615.
"This honor is a tribute to their efforts to be complete student athletes," said Utah head coach Kyle Kepler. "To have three sophomores and a freshman be honored says a lot about their commitment level. I am proud of them and I know they will continue to work hard as they pursue their degrees."
Utah sophomores included on the list were Megan Combe (3.24), Jenny McCune (3.97), and Amanda Mergaert (3.48). Freshman Rebekah Winterton earned the honor with a 3.77 GPA.
The fall 2010 Academic All-MWC team includes 386 student-athletes from men's and women's cross country, football, women's soccer and women's volleyball. To receive the honor, an athlete must be a starter or made a large contribution on their respective athletic team. They must also have completed a minimum of one academic term, while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better, at their institution.
