"Cal is an impressive team and you can tell" said Utah head coach Greg Winslow. "I was inspired by the divers. They did great on the boards. It's a sign of our improving diving program and their talent as they leap into the Pac-12."
Brandon Stopplemoor claimed the top spot in the 3-meter dive for the Utah men with an impressive 320.70 points. Caleb Herrick assisted with a fifth-place finish (221.03). In the 1-meter dive, Stoppelmoor took fourth (283.50).
Karson Applin finished third in the 100 fly with a 50.04 finals time. Applin was followed by Winter Heaven and Austin Fiascone in sixth and seventh (52.59 and 54.53). Corey Williams placed fourth in the 200 breast (2:11.91) and a 4:47.52 finals time by
Ryan Hansen in the 500 free grabbed him a fifth-place spot.
The teaming of Nick Soedel, Applin, Bjorn Gunnarsson and Winter Heaven earned third-place honors in the 400 free relay (3:04.53) while Ken Tiltges, Brandton Ferrin, Ryan Hansen and Alex Brown made up the sixth place squad.
Eric Murray snagged the third-place spot in the 400 IM (4:12.52) while Major Robinson scraped by in fifth (4:20.60) beating teammate Ken Tiltges by 0.06 seconds. Austin Fiascone also gathered points for the Utes with his third-place finish in the 100 back (52.36).
Graham Charlton and Brandton Ferrin took the third and fourth spots in the 1000 free (10:12.85 and 10:18.70) while Sodel finished third in the 50 free (20.77). The diving team continued to impress on the women's side as Jasmine Matkovic placed second for Utah in 1-meter dive (270.30). Ellis Walters close behind in third with 267.75 points. In the 3-meter dive, Walters came out on top with the win (295.13) while Matkovic was third (239.18).
Fourth and sixth place in the 100 back were taken by Traycie Swartz and Danielle Caldwell (57.06 and 59.59).
Zuch was also fourth in the 500 free (5:08.78), followed by Danielle Caldwell (5:11.65) and Oliver (5:23.48) in fifth and sixth, respectively. Kayla Buck had a strong meet, finishing fifth in both the 400 IM (4:35.97) and the 200 breast (2:27.27), while also taking the sixth spot in the 1000 free (10:42.43)
A redshirt last season, Melissa Paakh assisted the Utes with a sixth-place finish in the 200 fly (2:10.58) and also took the sixth spot in the 100 fly (58.37).
More stellar Ute performances include Hannah Caron's third place in the 200 fly (2:05.54) and the threesome of Valerie McMullan (54.75), Madeline Jamora (55.12) and
Al Jamora (57.13) taking fourth, fifth and sixth in the 100 free.
Sarah Cox also took sixth in the 200 back (2:09.33).
Next week, the Utah women take on Washington State on Oct. 29 at 11 a.m., at the Ute Natatorium.
