Utes Host Utah Intercollegiates This Weekend

SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's tennis team will host the Utah Intercollegiates Thursday through Saturday at Liberty Park Tennis Center, weather permitting. Doubles play will begin Thursday at 9 a.m., followed by singles at 10:15. Quarter finals and semifinals will take place Friday at 10:15 a.m., followed by the final round on Saturday.
Ute Singles Lineup
In the first round of the 32-man draw, No. 8-seeded freshman Ace Matias will take on Dylan Hansel of Weber State at 10:15 a.m., while sophomore Ben Tasevac faces Ben Rode, also from WSU at 10:30 a.m. No. 5-seeded sophomore Alejandro Medinilla will duel Utah State's Nate Ballam at11:30 a.m. The Utes' most recent addition to the team, Justin Archer, will take on No. 7-seeded Francis Sargeant of BYU at11:45 a.m. No. 2-seeded junior Dmytro Mamedov will enjoy a bye the first round.
In Doubles
No. 1-seeded Medinilla and Matias will take a bye the first round of doubles, while teammates Mamedov and Tasevac battle WSU's Hansel and Rode at 9 a.m. Archer will team up with Taylor Wilco of WSU to face No. 2-seeded Sargeant and Spencer Smith of BYU, also at 9 a.m.
Last Season's Tournament Results
Evan Urbina of BYU captured the singles championship with a victory over teammate Patrick Kawka, with a score of 7-5, 7-6(5). Daniel Hwang and Spencer Smith of BYU won the doubles championship, defeating fellow teammates Tyler Loong and Georgy Batrakov, 8-3.
