SALT LAKE CITY, Utah- The University of Utah women's cross country team will head to California this Saturday to compete at the Stanford Invitational (6k). The race will be held at 11:30 a.m. PDT at the Stanford Golf Course in Palo Alto, Calif. The event will host over 30 teams, including national power Stanford University, who will be hosting the invite.
"Our team is excited to compete at a big meet for the first time this year. There is a little more tension than usual because our athletes have never ran on that course, but we look forward to competing hard," said head coach Kyle Kepler.
"In past years, Utah has had success on the track at Stanford. We are trying to carry over that success into cross country," said Kepler.
Two years ago, the Utes did very well and finished sixth out of 33 teams at the Stanford Invitational.
This weekend, the Utes will receive help from Megan Combe and Amanda Mergaert, who will be making their season debuts. Kepler is also looking for a big contribution from Nikki Dotter, who led the Utes in their last meet at the Montana State Bobcat Invitational.
Kepler's Thoughts
"Combe and Mergaert will add more talent and depth to help out our young group. I want to see us be more aggressive early in the race and keep gaps to a minimum. This will give us an opportunity to find out where we are, compared to other teams."
