SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's tennis team has been honored with the 2009-10 Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) All-Academic Team Award. In addition to the team award, Timmy Allin, Alex Golding, and Stephen Jacobs were recognized as ITA Scholar- Athletes for their individual academic achievements.
"I am really proud of the guys that they did such a wonderful job in the classroom and I would like to congratulate them on a job well done," says, head coach F.D Robbins, "As coaches we set high expectations both on and off the court and it shows our players have made sacrifices in order to meet those expectations. I am very happy and proud of my team that they have truly embodied the concept of a student-athlete."
Allin, who graduated in May, is a four-time recipient of the ITA-Scholar Athlete Award. Jacobs is a two-time honoree, having earned the distinction for the second straight year. Golding, a freshman, also received the ITA award.
Utah earned the ITA All-Academic Team award for having a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or above. To earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, individuals must be a varsity letter winner, maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.50 for the current academic year, and be enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
