Utes Earn Bid to 2010 NCAA Championships
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.- Utah's women's tennis head coach Mat Iandolo was voted the Mountain West Conference Women's Tennis Coach of the Year, announced Thursday.
"I accept this award on behalf of my assistant coach Ruth Ann Allen and our strength coach Scott Willis," Iandolo stated. "I would not have been able to accomplish this without them."
In his third year as Utah's head coach, Iandolo led the team to its first regular season conference championship since 1983, and its first as a member of the MWC. The Utes have also earned their first NCAA tournament selection since 1998. Utah finished the regular season with a 17-7 overall record, including a perfect 8-0 mark in conference play.
Iandolo's Coach of the Year award is the third of his career, including two in the Big 10 (1998 and 2003) as the head coach at Purdue. He is the first Utah women's tennis coach to earn Coach of the Year honors since at least 1991.
